#1 – Mane showing off one of her many talents at the dinner table on Chimichanga night….mmm
#2 – enjoying the first bites…abuelos is better, but definitely the best mexican in Talin is at 12 Gayi Street!
#3 – Last week my host dad and I took a trip to Ashtarak (the capital of the region (Aragotsotn) I am living in) to pick up his mother at his sisters house. Here we are at St. Gevorgs Church just outside of the city.
#4 – A view of Ashtarak from the balcony of my “aunts” house. It was beautiful and sooo green…a little different from Talin…sigh..
#5 – This is a shot I took on the bus on last Friday of my new friend. The purpose of the photo was to show his hand on my thigh, but was unsuccessful. Peace Corps is all about helping others, right? Well, I have to say that for about an hour my thigh helped this man keep his balance. Just remember we all can make a difference.
#6 – Sunday afternoon Emil and I tried to make a swing from the largest apricot tree in the garden. This is after our first attempt broke. You would think a 14 year old and Purdue grad could figure this out…I should have called everyone from PB!!!..next time…
#7 – After the swing failure, I went to the village of Katnaghbiur with my “cousin” Moosheg who over the past couple of months had built this up as the best place on the planet..and the home of Whitney Houston (sorry that is a lie). So, I didn’t see her, but I did see the local swimming hole and a battlefield where Turkish and Armenian forces collided almost 100 years ago.
#8 – This is one of my cousins good friends Gor on the side of the swimming hole. There were some swimmers, but we passed. Its too bad, the film on top was pretty appealing…ha.
#9 – Here is an apple I ate in Moosheg’s brother’s garden. It was delicious. So were the other 15 pieces of fruit I ate there
#10 – This is taken from the garden towards his families home in Katnaghbiur. It may not have been the most incredible place that I have visited, but it was a beautiful town and a great way to finish off the weekend.
This week in theory was to be the first full week of work for me. Well, sadly I found out yesterday that I have another week of hanging around as the school schedule has not yet been established and the computer lab is still without internet. This has enabled my established routine of working out, showering and studying to continue…woot.
The highlight of yesterday was when I got my haircut. I wish I would have had my camera, but for about 2 dollars I got a nice fade and shared a bottle of vodka, orange fanta, bread and cheese with my barber and two of his friends. Can’t wait until the next one…
Who knows what tonight will bring….I am about to go on a walk with my host father now!!
Love you!
